1. acknowledge one's own role in the conflict 

2. develop empathy for the "other's" suffering and fears

3. develop non-violent dispositional behaviors

 

Challenges facing peace education

1. shared histories & identities

2. conflicting collective beliefs

3. grave inequalities 

4. excessive emotionality

5. a belligerent environment
