" Matzoh Ball Soup: We usually eat this on the Passover holiday, but Jewish people eat it all year too. When the Jewish people were escaping from slavery in Egypt, they were in a rush and didn't have time for the bread to rise. So, they made flat bread, called matzoh, like big crackers. For the Passover holiday, you are not allowed to eat bread for 10 days. So the clever Jewish people found many ways to serve the matzoh - including dumplings for soup.Matzoh Ball Chicken Soup is the feel-good food I eat when I am sick or sad :) And, after-class is time for dinner :)

Hamentashen Cookie: We eat these on another holiday called Purim. A long time ago - when there was a lot of hatred for the Jewish people - there was a king who was looking for a wife. He had a beauty contest and picked the most beautiful woman, Esther, to marry. They fell in love and shortly after, she told him a secret: she was Jewish! The king was okay with this (he just loved his wife most of all), but the king's head servant, who's name was Hamen, hated Jews most of all. Hamen, who wore a triangle hat on his head, tried to have the king killed. Luckily, the king outsmarted Hamen and killed him, bringing peace to the Jewish people. To celebrate the victory over the evil Hamen, we eat his triangle hat!"
